Concord is the largest residential developer in Canada specializing in urban communities. Over the past two decades Concord Adex and its parent company Concord Pacific have built (and continue to build) the 200 acre Concord Pacific Place in Vancouver, the 47 acre Concord CityPlace in downtown Toronto, and the 35 acre Concord Park Place in North York.
Concord Adex has launched the latest phase at their Concord CityPlace neighbourhood in Downtown Toronto with a 30-storey condominium tower they call Forward. This latest Page + Steele-designed offering will connect with Newton Condominiums, an 18-storey tower at Bathurst and Fort York Boulevard which launched this past September.
Newton was offered with a host of special amenities not normally found in condominium complexes that were aimed at people with some artistic flair and with a hankering to express it. Now, residents at Forward will also enjoy the art, photography, dance, and even recording studios that they will share with Newton, plus they will have access to the extensive amenities now being built just across from them in the Prisma Club at Quartz: residents of Forward will never suffer from a lack of choice when wanting to relax, unwind, or work out.
Forward isn’t just located right in the midst of a mountain of amenities, its location in the city puts it in an exceptionally well connected spot for just about everything. Immediately to the south will be a new Loblaws flagship location to be built in the company’s heritage headquarters and warehouse. Just to the west is all the greenspace of historic Fort York, soon to be connected to the whole city by an incredible extension to Toronto’s pedestrian and bicycle trail network. Just to the north, the city’s newest library is about to open, and to the east is Canoe Landing Park with its playfield, kilometre-long running track, and summertime Farmers’ Market. Go just a little farther afield and you’ll find yourself right in the financial core, or at a game at the Rogers Centre or Air Canada Centre, or on trendy King West, or enjoying the Ex or Harbourfront. Studies show that our health is determined to a great degree by how walkable our neighbourhood is: Forward offers good walks in every direction.

The CityPlace development is located in the area between Bathurst Street and the Rogers Centre, Front Street and Lakeshore Boulevard just south-west of Toronto’s financial district in Ontario, Canada and is an impressive prototype for a master planned community. Once completed in 2016, Concord CityPlace will boast 8 million square feet of residential, retail and commercial space in 27 high, mid and low rise buildings. More than 15,000 people will call CityPlace home.
With so many new residents in the area it was imperative that Concord create a balanced, vibrant and connected neighbourhood. This was accomplished with the careful selection of architects to create a dynamic built form, accommodating a range of retail uses, encouraging street activity, providing large green outdoors spaces and topping it off with a wide range of public art installations to engage and stimulate residents and visitors alike. By allocating the City’s “1% for Public Art” funds judiciously throughout the public realm Concord has created a seamless outdoor gallery of Public Art across an entire community, elevating CityPlace beyond the usual.
ArtSpace at Concord CityPlace is a virtual museum created by developer Concord Adex to showcase the many works of public art within the Concord CityPlace community. There are over a dozen Canadian and international artworks in the neighborhood, each one specially commissioned by Concord Adex as part of the City’s One Percent For Public Art Program… And there are more to come! All of these art pieces are located within the CityPlace community and are a comfortable walking distance from each other, making CityPlace a unique and accessible outdoor art gallery for anyone to enjoy. This site was created to help navigate the area and enrich the art experience for visitors who wish to visit the community, and for those who may never see the artworks in person.
The site was also created to be an accurate source of information for students, journalists and art enthusiasts about the CityPlace public art program – past, present and future. We will frequently update the site with new videos, articles, press clippings and photos, as well as posting announcements as new artworks are selected for the community.
